We’re Todd and Tanya Cass, aka TnT. We got hooked on sailing almost 20 years ago, when friends took us to the British Virgin Islands on a charter trip. Upon return we promptly signed up for ASA (American Sailing Association) lessons, and after Todd aced the classes and I suffered through blood, sweat and tears, we graduated – each certified to captain up to a 50 ft. sailing vessel. Then off we went – chartering and sailing with friends as often as we could afford it – and get vacation time. Many trips back to the BVIs, the French and Dutch Virgins, the Grenadines, and two glorious weeks in the Greek Islands. Always dreaming of a time when we could permanently trade in Indiana’s snow for sun, sand, and sailing. Fast forward to 2016 when we made the first leap to permanent live-aboard cruising – sold practically everything we owned, packed our suitcases with shorts, swimsuits, sunscreen and sandals, bought a gorgeous sailboat, and prepared for our new life adventure!
It took us almost four years of full-time marina living to get both ourselves and the boat prepared (including transitioning Todd from working remotely to not working – retirement now for both of us). Then a three-month “shake-down” cruise to the Bahamas. And, as of November 2020, permanently living on the hook.
In reality the passage from there to here has not been quite that simple. If you’re interested in knowing about our process we’ve chronicled our journey in these blog posts which you can read from the beginning – navigating the rough seas with love, patience, lots of humor, and the help of many friends and family, to whom we are beyond grateful.
Let the adventures continue!
