The Casstaways had a very busy three months on land visiting family and friends in Washington, Missouri, and Indiana. Our trip was filled with fun, frivolity, trauma, drama, and constant dashing off to one appointment or another. By Monday, August 30 we reluctantly said goodbye to family, while still breathing a sigh of relief that we were headed back to our floating home. After a lovely Labor Day Weekend respite in the TnT Suite at the J&J B&B in Venice, Florida (courtesy of good friends Jackie Henry and John Belshaw), we prepared to depart our slip at Fisherman’s Village on Saturday, September 11. But, as is all too often the case, Mother Nature had a different idea and daily rain showers rained on our plans. It’s not that we can’t tolerate a little wetness (after all, we live on the water), but temperatures were in the 90’s and we have no air conditioning when not on shore power. So, being cooped-up in a tiny cabin with hatches closed is pretty much like living in a sauna. Consequently, we opted to hang out at the marina a while longer. But the stir craziness got the best of us and we determined to cast off on Wednesday, September 15, to begin our cruise back south to Marathon where we plan to join our friends in Boot Key Harbor while prepping and provisioning to return to the Bahamas in November.
