We arrive at our first anchorage in Eluethra, Old Bight on Cat Island (named after the pirate Arthur Cat), on Wednesday, April 27, 2022. A lovely spot near Rollezz Resort. Rollezz has a restaurant that came highly recommended by fellow boaters we met in Black Point so Dave makes reservations for the three of us for dinner tomorrow, Thursday 28. Can’t say enough great things! We enjoyed a four-course dinner of split pea soup (thumbs up from all of us – Tanya gets the recipe), green salad with kale from the resort garden and their house honey-mustard dressing, grilled mahi with mashed potatoes and veggies, and coconut pie for dessert. All for only $40 per person!
We made a short motor to New Bight on Friday morning the 29th. Going ashore mid-morning we made the hike to Mount Alverna, the highest elevation in the Bahamas at 206 feet above sea level. Sitting atop Mt. Alverna is the Hermitage, a miniature monastery carved from solid rock by Father Jerome Hawes who settled there in 1939.
Saturday, April 30 is Captain David’s birthday so we start the morning with a snorkeling adventure, exploring several of the rock outcroppings. That evening, we reconvene on Holokai for a special birthday edition of steak night.
On Sunday, May 1, we make the sail to Bennetts Harbour. Coffee and egg wraps for breakfast in the cockpit. Sailing wing-on-wing for a bit – our first time, then wind gave out completely.
On Monday, May 2, we took the dingys to explore the creek to Alligator Point until shallow water and a major impending storm forced us back.
Tuesday, May 3, we headed to Little San Salvador, a private cay cruise ship stop. A Cardinal Majic cruise ship came in while we were there – wow did we feel small! On Wednesday, May 4, we made a very rolling eight hour journey, with winds up to 28 knots and scattered storms before finally making it to Eluethra – Rock Sound Settlement.
