The Honeymoon is Over

Brand new boat, brand new systems – what could possibly go wrong? Hahahahaha. Sailors often say that BOAT stands for Break Out Another Thousand. While we’ve had a few minor odds and ends to repair or replace in our first seven months, this week was the big kahuna. Dead air conditioner. Ninety-four degrees in the cabin. The ironic part? Our four new boat fans are being installed today. So, while our air conditioning unit is sitting at the repair shop, Todd and our favorite boat genius, Ted Weyhrauch of Innovative Marine Services, are sweating their butts off drilling holes and running wiring. And not only is it stifling hot, the salon and cockpit are a crowded disaster as we’ve had to pull everything out of the aft cabin (our storage room as you may recall) including mattress, in order to reach the air conditioner. And everything else has been moved to clear space to run the fan wiring.
The final destination for all those new wires and breakers
Where’s our salon???
While several generous friends have offered us rooms, we’ve been determined to tough it out – sleeping on the couches in the salon with a cheap portable fan blowing just enough breeze to keep the sweat at slightly less than flood level.
Our high tech temporary cooling system.
The good news of course is that Casstaway is a new boat and still under warranty. So hopefully, we’ll not be the ones shelling out the moola for the AC repair/replace. Which is a really good thing ‘cause these fans aren’t cheap. Welcome TnT to the joys of boat ownership.
Escaping to the car for some AC.
The sweat-induced hairstyle is enough to scare dogs and small children.
Can we say “humidity frizz”?

  1. Oh, Tanya. What a story! I knew there was a reason i enjoy boat life vicariously through you, rather than with you! I'd be found totally melted in a lake of sweat! Try to stay cool and make sure that your warranty covers the cost of all this! BTW: DId I tell you it was 65 degrees last night at the State Fair? 😉
