‘Tis the Season (and a tad beyond)

For every time there is a season. This Christmas season wasn’t yet the time for the Casstaways to cast-off our Boot Key Harbor mooring ball. So, instead of a Christmas on the high seas, we spent Christmas on the small waves enjoying all the holiday festivities here in the harbor. And festivities there were! VHF Bingo, dingy caroling, serving as special elves for Santa, Christmas Boat Parade, a festive pot-luck holiday dinner… Like my letter to Santa, the list goes on and on…

Some photo highlights and highjinks:

Working with other Boot Key Harbor elves to stuff Christmas stockings for all the cruisers who were on their boats solo for the season.
Tanya painted 45 of these bookmarks to add to the elves’ stockings. Todd used his manual labor skills to aid with assembly.
Brand new bikes purchased, assembled, and donated to the local law enforcement’s holiday project for needy kids.
One fine example of the festive boats in this year’s Holiday Boat Parade.
Playing VHF Bingo with friends. The fuzziness of the photo possibly indicates that adult beverages were served.
A cold snap brought temps in the 50’s! With no heat on Casstaway (unless we’re on shore power in a marina) Tanya had to break out the socks and leggings.
What do the Casstaways do when it’s too chilly to sit outside? A very challenging 1,000 piece puzzle.
Individual pineapple upside down cakes baked and delivered to boat friends quarantining with Covid.
The weekly game of Mexican Train dominos.
Friday night Happy Hour at the Tiki Hut.
One of many yummy dinners served aboard Casstaway.
Tanya’s first attempt at making a pizza in her “easy bake” oven. Crust a little brown but technique has been since perfected.
This is what a Polar Bear Plunge looks like in the Keys.
Captain Todd takes the challenge!

Our time in Marathon will come to a close at the end of March. Looking for the first good weather window in April to head to the Bahamas – smooth seas, good winds, and sunny skies.
